Russian Air Force Aerobatic Group "Russian Knights" took first place and FAI Grand Prix Gold medals at Al Ain 2006 International Aerobatics Show.
Al Ain 2006 International Air Show and 23 FAI Grand Prix have been organized under the patronage and kind assistance of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chief of Staff of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.The organizers of the "Al Ain 2006" Air Show - UAE Defence Ministry, UAE Air Force and Air Defence, Economic and Tourist Development Authority, FAI and Atlas Aerospace proudly presented commands from 37 countries in the class of jet and sports airplanes and helicopters in the group and single programs, and also command on the super-lightweight flight vehicles.
By the solution of international judges under the chairmanship of HH Sheik Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan "Russian Knights" of Russian Air Force is rewarded with the gold medals of the 23 Aerobatics FAI Grand Prix and occupied the first place in the class of jet aircraft in the group program.
The "Russian Knights" is a part of the 237th Red Banner Proskurov Guards Aircraft Display Centre awarded Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky Orders and named after the Air Force Marshal Ivan Kozhedub.
The Russian Knights aerobatic team was formed on April 5, 1991 on the basis of the Su-27-equipped 1st Squadron. The team debuted in the UK in September 1991. Since then, the Russian Knights have participated in a lot of air shows, both in Russia and abroad. This is the only aerobatic team in the world to perform formation aerobatics on heavy fighters. The Russian Knights currently fly six Su-27 aircraft.
During the closing ceremony His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Al Ain Aerobatic Show noted, that the participation of the representatives of Russian Air Force contributes consolidation of the mutual confidence and collaboration between our countries and serves as a good example of the cooperation of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates and Russian Federation.
